I know this is going to give Curtis all kinds of identification trouble (heck, I won't be too surprised is all of you have trouble), so I am going to make him/you suffer (mwaaahaaahaaa). After last night's full 12 inches of snow I was very surprised to see this at my feeder with the new frenzy:
without a doubt my latest ever for Michigan (!) by at least a month. Wonder where this bird has been over the last month or two? Also had the fall's first yard American Tree Sparrow today. Bring on the BRSP for a Spizella trifecta.
2013 and beyond
It's pretty simple: the most birds seen or heard from one's yard during 2013 will be the "winner". Want in? O.k....then do it despite that.
2013 promises to be a lot less mean but still a carbon-free birding competition, even if slightly less exciting than a MEGA x EPIC hybrid.

Amazing that you got that much snow. Have had just a dusting here where the lake effect machine usually dumps first. You can have it. I'm not ready for it yet.
ReplyDeleteBrewer's would be most welcome anywhere in the state - even in your yard. Whats the prognostication for the next MI mega-rarity? Thick-billed Murre, Black Guillemot, Long-billed Murrelet....
Missed the damn Dovekie. 13 miles from my door. I think there was too much concentration on ANMU, at least on my part. And the fact that South Haven is way under birded.
Yeah agreed about the underbirdedness (pretty sure I just coined that word) of South Haven. A solid spot, but just far enough from the usual Muskegon/Grand Haven stops and kind of a ways form the normal Berrien Co haunts...
ReplyDeleteNice spizella Caleb. For what it's worth I've never had a Chipping at my feeders past early Nov and I've had a Field Sparrow once (12/26/06). Are you in a CBC circle out there Caleb?

ReplyDeleteSean- FISP is really great this time of year! My CHSP was last seen on the 8th; I doubt he is still alive. And anyway I don't think I am in a CBC circle so it wouldn't have mattered even if he lived. I am ready for RLHA over my yard now please!
