2013 and beyond

It's pretty simple: the most birds seen or heard from one's yard during 2013 will be the "winner". Want in? O.k....then do it despite that.

2013 promises to be a lot less mean but still a carbon-free birding competition, even if slightly less exciting than a MEGA x EPIC hybrid.

  1. yeah- it's a real shame that this guy probably died in the snow last night.....

  2. Now the hordes of weakly flying BARS and NRWS I saw over lakes around here today...they are a different story entirely. The TRES had a nice snap in their wing but the NRWSs looked particularly weak... I'm not sure if the lack of BANS and CLSW among the thousand or so swallows indcates they have already died or were smart enough to wait a little while longer before heading north en masse...

  3. I found 2 dead creepers in the local park after the last cold snap. The 4 or 30 or so TRES that were attempting roost in my neighbors cedar trees for the night were fine in the a.m., not sure where the other 26 ended up but I would have found dead birds had they expired....

  4. Skye are you talking about cold weather or the AOU decision on YRWA?

  5. YES!!!!!

My commentary can be applied to both the weather and pending AOU decisions. I was really surprised no-one jumped on that last post of mine either (my last first Dendroica of spring?), being that there is a proposal in the AOU right now to do away with the genus dendroica (which makes me sad...).

JK- save those creepers for me!
