2013 and beyond

It's pretty simple: the most birds seen or heard from one's yard during 2013 will be the "winner". Want in? O.k....then do it despite that.

2013 promises to be a lot less mean but still a carbon-free birding competition, even if slightly less exciting than a MEGA x EPIC hybrid.

Spring-like weather finally hits the north coast...

...and I spent the day inside at a fish auction.

However, I've picked up some new yard birds, including this stunner (digibinned):

  2. Buy fish! Instead of keeping a lifelist of birds, aquarists can compete by breeding fish in their aquaria, and to get the points for that they have to sell some of the offspring at these auctions. Its a great way to get rare stuff that most fish stores don't sell. I picked up three species, all of which I've never ever seen for sale before (but were common at the auction).
