2013 and beyond

It's pretty simple: the most birds seen or heard from one's yard during 2013 will be the "winner". Want in? O.k....then do it despite that.

2013 promises to be a lot less mean but still a carbon-free birding competition, even if slightly less exciting than a MEGA x EPIC hybrid.

I couldn'ta been a contenda

I knew this moment was coming. Just smoked by JD, with more of you lunatics to soon come screamin by.

Spring migration has been appallingly slow in the yard (big surprise). Plenty of warblers transiting above without even a call note. Not even a thrush, though hoping for some night migrants tonight with the recent weather system moving out.

Time to reset priorities and hone in on that mega ...

  1. Well then I guess it's good timing with the Rapture starting in about 30 minutes.

    Are you ready?

I'm missing a lot of migrants too but still have Yellow Rail still clicking nightly from the yard -- I'm going to nurse that baby for awhile.

  2. It's a sad, sad story: I've been too busy to get down to the migration hot spots in the southern U.P., so instead I've been sulking around my yard (and Marquette County). Then Kaplan rubs it in with his night after night after freakin' night of Yellow Rail. Geez, enough already with the tic, tic. . . tic, tic, tic!
