2013 and beyond

It's pretty simple: the most birds seen or heard from one's yard during 2013 will be the "winner". Want in? O.k....then do it despite that.

2013 promises to be a lot less mean but still a carbon-free birding competition, even if slightly less exciting than a MEGA x EPIC hybrid.

BWWA, ESOW, PISI, DCCO, HETH

A female PISI greeted me yesterday morning. It was feeding at the thistle feeders. Earliest ever for me. In the afternoon I tried for warblers, but, other than resident birds, all I could drum up with the owl tape was an ESOW. Thats 148 now for the cumulative total against Mr. Fitzbew. A DCCO flew over as well yesterday. BWWA was high in the sunlit beech canopy this evening and a HETH was witting in the underbrush.

  1. We get to share Blue-winged Warbler points Rick as I had one this evening as well with what seemed to be a pretty similar group of warblers as yesterday in the same vicinity (minus BLPWs + NAWA, BAWW, BHVI, and the BWWA). I also got a mixed flock of Wood Ducks and BW Teal go over this evening. My ebird checklists for the yard have been steadily increasing by two species from 34 last week to 46 today. Tomorrow I actually get to bird in the morning for a change!
