2013 and beyond

It's pretty simple: the most birds seen or heard from one's yard during 2013 will be the "winner". Want in? O.k....then do it despite that.

2013 promises to be a lot less mean but still a carbon-free birding competition, even if slightly less exciting than a MEGA x EPIC hybrid.

Sympathy for the House Sparrow

Please allow me to introduce myself - I'm a bird of filth and waste
I've been around for a long, long time
Stole many a cavity nesters place
and I was around when Swamp Kat
had his moment of yardbird gain
made damn sure that Blogger
tallied his 4th place fate

Please,please, please to meetcha
Hope you guess my name
and please, please,please
don't bring back your mate

  4. This thread just blew Putnam's mind as he has no idea how to string together bird-related lyrics fast enough to accompany Stevie Ray Vaughan riffs.

  6. Tweak it a little more, Haasenpfeffer. Actually, you might just be able to do it. It just needs elaboration on details for size, structure, vocalization, angle of lighting, optics used, etc.....I'm sure the Committee would love it. Yes, I just threw caution to the wind.

  7. good points Rick....and don't forget to address the hybrid issue; my first cousin Lenny said his neighbor saw one once near Bay City

  9. Chaplain- Is "Lenny" an SRV reference? if so, nice work on this little-known ditty. As for hybrids, I think it'd be tough to get past D. virens, my own self. Hehehe....

  10. No, I really do have a first cousin named Lenny, but he does play guitar, well he's taking lessons.
