2013 and beyond

It's pretty simple: the most birds seen or heard from one's yard during 2013 will be the "winner". Want in? O.k....then do it despite that.

2013 promises to be a lot less mean but still a carbon-free birding competition, even if slightly less exciting than a MEGA x EPIC hybrid.

Finally some nocturnal listening

From 5:00AM to 5:40AM I tried for VEER, YBCU (both still life yardbirds), and other early fall nocturnal migrants but had none. The Perseids, however, were incredible- some of the brightest shooting starts I've ever seen. I suspect within a short time we will begin having decent nightflights- perhaps with the cooling weather we are due for?

    I sat out in my yard last night- 15-20 noc-migrants went overhead in 2 hours. Sounded like Nashville's and a few other warblers thingy's

    Wow Mr. Overconfidence- not only are you able to separate a double-banded upseep from a single-banded upseep and either category of downseep *BY EAR*, you are also able to distinguish NAWA from BTNW, OCWA, TEWA, PROW, MOWA, YRWA, etc. You need to offer us mortals some kind of training seminar.

    Caleb, I can't believe you have the Audacity to call Skye out like that on his flight calls.....your like one of those nuns with a ruler. cruel.

    I think the cold air of Lake Superior makes it easier to distinguish these things -- the sound carries much better.
