2013 and beyond

It's pretty simple: the most birds seen or heard from one's yard during 2013 will be the "winner". Want in? O.k....then do it despite that.

2013 promises to be a lot less mean but still a carbon-free birding competition, even if slightly less exciting than a MEGA x EPIC hybrid.

Good life yardbird

Just had a WISN fly over the house at dusk, giving the scrapy, reedy, single note repeated at a regular, slow interval. Bread- hate to say it but you are TIED for the year with someone who started on 20 September!

    Tanman, glad someone is still yard birding, you are the king. I'm still putting in 8-10 hours a day on the lair but migration is definitely starting to slow down, I don't think I'm going to break 165 this year but we'll see, the month is young.

    Rick, what is your biggest yard-miss?

    Putty - if you look harder you'll see you have several on me.

    Joe - biggest misses for the year (so far) are OCWA, TUSW & BADO. Australia trip during peak fall migration also cost me several empids. For all-time: GBBG (100' off property when seen), EWPW (just out of earshot every year), WISN & MUSW.

    I'm still hard at it every morning before work and with the mic when in the house. No slouchin' here!

    Dammit Bwewwew's! Let me not be last, will ya? And yes, bulldoze that neighborhood- it will be good for your Vermivora yardlist. Or shall I say Oreothlypis?

    RIBR- it is inexplicable how you don't have EAWP for that yard (I'll learn you your alpha codes slowly but surely: Barred Owl is BDOW (Barn Owl)). TUSW is also a bit embarassing given your position, OCWA, MUSW and WISN I can let go. In any event, you'll easily coast to victory now anyway, so this is the worst ribbing you'll have to endure I am sure (Kat, Haastage, somebody assist me)

    Putty - Perhaps you were a bit sleepy when you responded to my response to Joe's inquiry.

    Whatever the case, according to Pyle & DeSante, in 2010 the alpha code for Barred Owl = BADO. Granted I have used BDOW in the past, but I believe both that and Barn Owl (BANO) have changed:

    Also, you misread my EWPW (Eastern Whip-poor-will) for EAWP (Eastern Wood-Pewee).

    16 TUSW (158) in two groups flew by this morning before work. No longer "embarrassing".
