2013 and beyond

It's pretty simple: the most birds seen or heard from one's yard during 2013 will be the "winner". Want in? O.k....then do it despite that.

2013 promises to be a lot less mean but still a carbon-free birding competition, even if slightly less exciting than a MEGA x EPIC hybrid.

The Haastage held hostage

Just wanted you all to know that I have a semi-unexpected (and very infrequent) visitor at the PuttHutt, who won't be birding his far northern yard tomorrow since he'll be here helping me reach yearbird 40. Yes me, the modern day BEWA.

  1. And just for the record, my one request of the Haastage was that he provided yearbird #40 for me, which he duly did with a flyover WWCR about 20 minutes ago. Off to look at PUSA in Muskegon co.

  2. Three for one special.... RECR=WWCR=CORE

  3. Dammit Kat. How the hell am I supposed to keep up with you when you double down on my RECR?

  4. Curious too, why did it take you 4 months to "discover" the lake in your backyard?

    Leaves in the way?

  5. You're not the first to ask, KittyKat. Not sure honestly: leaf out obstructed the view, plus I would have had to cross a Rubus bramble patch of epic proportions which also happens to be full of cockleburs, so I never ended up at the far NE corner of the property. I could get all the passerines in the NW corner with ease. Either way, it's a good thing I did find it. Today the lake was iced over again so no go with AMCO or mergs.

  6. Nice ice. Somethings got to cool you off!

  7. So RIBR, how come such a modest 2012 year tally? Haven't heard much from you... I'd say a full 'catch up' is due?

  9. So SIPU, you're saying you were scared of going outside because there were icky plants?

  10. Icky plants is right. Funny when I was a kid we just called them burs. Seems so mature to call them by their real common name.

Putty, you crack me up every time. I'm a big fan.

  11. ANJO- that's big talk for someone with barely 1/3 the species I have. Jealousy?

And yes, they all are, Kat. Join the club.

On a serious note: my lake is 90% frozen over, with the AMCO flock and COME/RBME flock on the wrong side, making it tougher for me to add more species. Have a feeling I could be beneath 50 species for 2 months...
