It's pretty simple: the most birds seen or heard from one's yard during 2012 will be the winner. Not of money, fame, fortune, or anything of value to any normal human being. Just eternal yardbirding legend. This year's contest is a stripped-down, souped-up, no holds barred version of 2011, with only the foolhardy remaining.

2012 promises to be the greenest, meanest, most carbon-free, birding competition EVER (not counting the fuel to harvest, sterilize, and transport thistle seed from Ethiopia or sunflower seed from N. Dakota).

You guys aren't the only ones in on the CORE party

44 just arrived, and it is an important pickup for me, no doubt. I have to say I wasn't sure they were inland yet at my latitude so this is perhaps a sign I'll have a chance for HORE before winter's end?
It is also not lost on me that I already have 6 finch species on my 2012 yardlist, more than any of you guys I believe (update your google doc spreadsheet so I can be sure). Couldn't have predicted that!

  1. Yo Silly stringer,

    It isn't a CORE party, it's a HORE party.

    Stay frosty!

  3. It's going on day three in my backyard, I don't have to dream.

Talking about a party, doesn't feel like the blog got abandoned?

Are we so yesterday or what? Feels like high school again.

  4. Yeah, but I am still used to having only 4 active members like back when we started this thang, so it's all good... And it's always been like high school- when wasn't it?

  5. Now that I'm iced in at the wetlands and in the process of moving, my yardbirding has hit a bit of a lull. Did score RTHA at the new place while unloading the trunk on Saturday though...
