2013 and beyond

It's pretty simple: the most birds seen or heard from one's yard during 2013 will be the "winner". Want in? O.k....then do it despite that.

2013 promises to be a lot less mean but still a carbon-free birding competition, even if slightly less exciting than a MEGA x EPIC hybrid.

Bathing beauty

I thought the NOWA was decent yesterday, but at dusk tonight a skulker took a dip in the water. Yes Oporornis. Although I would have preferred COWA for the yard this year I will settle for another MOWA. This one was a young lady with the beginnings of a barely discernible breast band. Other birds of note at the bath this evening were WIWA, OVEN, AMRE & SWTH. This morning a BHVI came in to my pishing as I chimmed in with the jays and titmouse mobbing a SSHA.

  1. Oh, btw Putnut, were tied and you're about to get shredded.

  2. A Colima Warbler sure WOULD be a preferred yard bird...over most any other warbler! Wow, you must have something going in your yard that I don't...in order to even have that one on your radar screen that is! WOW! Oh, and FYI, COWA is Vermivora not Oporornis.

  3. Actually, smarty boy, COWA as an alpha code doesn't exist at all! Colima Warbler is COLW. So, na na na boo boo. (Can you tell I am raising a 3 yr old currently?)

  4. tttthhhhhpppppppppp!!!!! (can you feel the spit spraying on your face as I toss this one back at you!) It was YOUR birding friend that provided the MISSINFORMATION! And anyway it was a fun shot at Rick...come'on, don't ruin the fun!

  5. I'm impressed my mistakes can stir up such turmoil.
