2013 and beyond

It's pretty simple: the most birds seen or heard from one's yard during 2013 will be the "winner". Want in? O.k....then do it despite that.

2013 promises to be a lot less mean but still a carbon-free birding competition, even if slightly less exciting than a MEGA x EPIC hybrid.

Mid-April + south winds + thermals = hawks

After many days of nothing new (and boring blog), it is finally happening. I have light SW winds and moderately warm temps, and have noticed TUVUs and RTHAs playing around in the thermals quite a bit, so decided to watch the south horizon for a while. Was rewarded pretty much instantly with :

OSPR (98/119)
NOHA (99)
BWHA (100/120)

and then just now at the feeder (101/121):
GOD I love spring. Oh yeah, yesterday's NRWS was 97/118 and today's BARS 102/122. And I also discovered a new species of Parid in the yard too: Poecile leucocaudata
