2013 and beyond

It's pretty simple: the most birds seen or heard from one's yard during 2013 will be the "winner". Want in? O.k....then do it despite that.

2013 promises to be a lot less mean but still a carbon-free birding competition, even if slightly less exciting than a MEGA x EPIC hybrid.

2 new warbs, and a second noturnal mic

Well fellaz. Was happy to add to the single NAWA and 2 TEWA which have been in the yard the past few days. Today they were joined by a single Blackpoll and 1 Black-throated Green at the bath. No photos have been obtained yet, but I'll keep trying.

On another note, I now have in my hands all of the materials for building a nocturnal-migrant microphone like Slobber's. By the end of the evening I hope to have it built, and by tomorrow hopefully it will be on the rooftop. More soon!

  1. Yes, important detail, eh?!? For real guys, I soldered one of the capacitors on backwards and the result after plugging in the 9V battery was a small, brief fire! Today I resoldered all new components and the sucker still doesn't work. So, it'll be a while longer until the Putnam household gets to monitor the night sky...

  2. And today Bill Evans actually CALLED me to help me troubleshoot- what a gentleman! Hopefully within 2 days I'll have it working...
