2013 and beyond

It's pretty simple: the most birds seen or heard from one's yard during 2013 will be the "winner". Want in? O.k....then do it despite that.

2013 promises to be a lot less mean but still a carbon-free birding competition, even if slightly less exciting than a MEGA x EPIC hybrid.

Almost in the yard...

(Edited by SEFI so at least CP isn't so embarrassed about the fact that not only wasn't this bird in his yard but he also posted terrible photos of the bird - Copyright 2011 Caleb Putter posted with his permission, please contact SEFI for further use of this photo and for paypal arrangements)

This one is too good not to post at least something here. CUDY and I were busy looking at our first Kent Co. Red-necked Grebe this evening, in the Grand River in a large flock of 300+ COGOs, when this beaut popped up in the same scope view as the grebe (!!). STATE BIRD for both of us, and 2 county birds in the same view. Now just to get a single duck other than MALL, HOME, and WODU for my yard!

  1. and that spur don't looks like it goes all the way to the waterline.....

I seem to recall a certain someone using that as criteria for signs of hybridization

  3. Slacker & Been-warned resisted the urge to post their WWWAAAAAAAAAAAAyyyy better Royal Tern to the blog- because, it ain't in their back-f-ing-yard! No jealousy other then of your good looks....
Just lets stay on task here.

btw- little sparrow you're on watch for your grouse transgression.....

  4. Wow- jealousy on 2 fronts, big surprise. Understandable Slags since instead of 8 you're now down 9 in the Kent Co. list. And hey, perhaps you can talk to the other "patch" birders on this blog about posting stuff at a site away from their house. I'm the one who DOESN'T make a habit of that. Plus I'll never have a good waterfowl from my yard so let me enjoy my 5 minutes.

  5. I concur with Slags and Hass. This doesn't merit inclusion on this blog as it is entirely superfluous to this blog's topic and discussion. And don't even try to equate my "Near miss" BUFF post because guess what else is in there; multiple pix of COME landing in my patch/yard. Side note, the BUFF post was worth it because last night I had a(the?) lone male BUFF on the pond after work. Also got GBHE last night and picked up AMCO this AM. Chew on that Put[loves]nuts!
