2013 and beyond

It's pretty simple: the most birds seen or heard from one's yard during 2013 will be the "winner". Want in? O.k....then do it despite that.

2013 promises to be a lot less mean but still a carbon-free birding competition, even if slightly less exciting than a MEGA x EPIC hybrid.

Do Dream Yard Birds Count?

I had a dream the other night that all you guys wanted to come visit me and witness my wasteland of a yard in person. During your visit, I found a Varied Thrush hanging out on my roof. Needless to say, my yard was thus vindicated as a primo birding location and I was able to up my O-10 list to '3'.

Dreams are soooooooo weird....

  1. I've totally dreamt yard birds before... Although I'm not sure I've had as good of a dream yard bird. I recently woke up thinking I'd had a few flyover Tundra Swans here in mid-Jan... Once the cobwebs cleared I realized that the only concievable option would have been some white Rock Pigeons going over...

  2. My best dream yard bird was a Broad-billed Hummer at my Montana feeder back in grad school. It was absolutely convincing, and a total bummer when I finally woke up.
