2013 and beyond

It's pretty simple: the most birds seen or heard from one's yard during 2013 will be the "winner". Want in? O.k....then do it despite that.

2013 promises to be a lot less mean but still a carbon-free birding competition, even if slightly less exciting than a MEGA x EPIC hybrid.

Name dropping in the yard

I'm getting my eBird training in a few minutes so I only have a couple to brag about what flew through the yard today.

1) American Kestrel
2) Caspian Tern
3) Bonaparte's Gull -42
4) Purple Finch

other new species in the Portage today included Brown Thrasher and 2 Greater Yellowlegs.

Oh did I mention Michigan's IBA coordinator was in the House? Do I feel uber special. Good birder but kind of a putz.

  1. Not sure what to say except "if you can't beat em, join em"! Seriously boyz, it's all downhill from here for us...

Also worth mentioning: Hussey plans to be in Michigan in mid-Sept and Kaps and I are thinking it appropriate to schedule a Yardbird reunion tour for that time: perhaps a barbecue and some serious birding with 8-10 dorks? Any takers?

  3. Oh, I forgot to mention that its nice to have some competition again. It was getting a little boring. Bring it on Kitty Putty, I can handle the two-on-one thing.
